David was surprised to discover…
"...That the posts and gravel boards are much lighter and easier to handle than concrete and the long life span that the steel posts provide mean I can literally fit and forget."
After winning Birkdale’s recent competition to receive a new DuraPost® fence, homeowner David Kirby used the products to carry out an installation at the front of his property in Cheshire. The new attractive fencing system proved to be the perfect long-lasting replacement for his previous timber fence, which had deteriorated over time.
The project comprised the installation of 13 DuraPost® fence posts in Anthracite Grey, complete with matching DuraPost® composite gravel boards and post caps. David then constructed timber panels onsite using rails and paling boards. All materials, including the timber rails, paling boards and post concrete were supplied by Birkdale as part of David’s prize.
I would certainly recommend the DuraPost® system for any DIY installation. The DuraPost® posts and gravel boards are high quality products and the Anthracite Grey adds a contemporary look to our traditional picket fence.
David carried out the work by himself, a post-holder method was required to keep the post in the correct position and height whilst the concrete was setting in the posthole. By simply using the pre-drilled holes on the DuraPost®, David was able to attach a horizontal rail sitting at ground level to easily ensure the same post height could be achieved every time without measurement.
Due to David’s previous experience putting up garden fencing using both timber and concrete slotted posts, the project provided the ideal opportunity for David to compare the installation process between traditional materials and the steel DuraPost®.
